Korean Beef Wraps

Shiso or perilla is one of my go-to greens on my Grobrix wall. It’s bright, slightly minty, and fragrant, making it a versatile accompaniment to dishes.

Here, I’m showing you how to use it in a wrap with my favourite Korean flavours!

Using this as a wrap is a great way to add more greens into your meal!

There are so many ways you can use perilla leaves in your cooking. Here are some of my favourite recipes:

THE RECIPE

SERVES 3-4

Ingredients

  • 250g thinly sliced beef

  • 1 medium carrot, julienned

  • 1 white onion, thinly sliced

  • 50g Korean bean sprouts

  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp oil

Marinade

  • 1 tbsp gochujang paste

  • 2 tbsp water

  • 1/2 tsp mirin

  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce

  • 1 tsp sesame oil

  • 2” ginger, grated

Garnish

  • 1 sprig spring onion, sliced to 1”

  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds

  • 8-9 perilla leaves

Directions

  1. In a medium bowl, mix all the ingredients for the marinade.

  2. Add in the beef and mix to coat it well with the marinade. Set aside.

  3. In a wide skillet, sauté the onion in some oil till softened.

  4. Add in the carrots, bean sprouts, soy sauce, and 1-2 tbsp of water. Let it simmer till the carrots have softened.

  5. Lastly, add the beef in and simmer for about 2 mins, or until it has cooked ¾ through.

  6. Garnish with the spring onion and sesame seeds, and serve with fresh perilla and some rice!
