I had a wonderful time hosting the Very Dairy launch, and I learnt so much from moderating the panel discussion.

We’re talking animal-free dairy here.
… It’s not plant-based milk.
… It’s not GMO milk.
… It’s similar to traditional milk in the ways you want it to, but with processes friendlier to the Earth. No cows involved!

I know, nuts right!!

Very Dairy milk by Perfect Day is made through precision fermentation. The ‘cows’ we rely on here are our friendly micro flora.

Here’s what happens - they get fed water, vitamins, and sugar which then undergo fermentation and get converted into milk proteins that are identical to that of cows milk. If you think of beer production, it’s a similar process! Don't worry, it doesn't taste like fermented milk though. To me, it is reminiscent of the flavour of drinking yoghurt.

Nutrition wise, it’s cholesterol-free, and in terms of sugar levels, the Strawberry and Chocolate versions aren’t sugary like their traditional milk counterparts. It literally contains a fifth the amount of sugar - how good is that!

Note: it’s lactose-free, but not dairy-free. If you’re allergic to milk proteins, this wouldn't be for you I'm afraid!

The launch was hosted at Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa’s lovely property, and was put together by Upcycle Communications.
