UOB

Art

What a privilege to return as host of the UOB Painting of the Year Awards Ceremony, now celebrating its remarkable 43rd year.

It was moving to hear the stories behind each masterpiece, as every artwork served as a window into the artist's personal experiences and unique perspectives.

Two works particularly captured my attention. The first was '460042' by Beryl Kwok, which depicts the view from her HDB flat (I loved all the details!) and the second was 'A Sip Through Time' by Yong Wee Loon – a journey through time set in a coffee shop, where we see vintage items and traditional sweets coexisting with modern elements like QR codes and surveillance cameras.

We were also honoured to have Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for National Development, to present these talented artists with their well-deserved awards.

It's truly inspiring to see UOB's unwavering commitment to nurturing the arts, providing not just a platform but also the essential resources and support that enable artists to pursue and sustain their creative careers.

There are so many more artworks to discover and this is all open to the public at the 2024 UOB POY Regional Winners' Showcase at National Gallery Singapore (UOB Discovery Space, Level 4). It's open daily from 10am to 7pm until 26 Jan 2025, or alternatively, you can check out UOBandArt.com for a virtual tour of the winning pieces!
